Directives and rules

At the competition competitors must abide by SSL’s rules, special directives for ski orienteering FC 2018 and the organizer’s advice.

Eligibility to FC contests is consistent with the Finnish Orienteering Association rules. Others can participate in these classes as part of national Lapin Lumirastit contest.


Latest on Thursday 22nd March , at 24:00 by using Finnish Orienteering Federation IRMA service.

When you register for the competition, you must remember to mention your EmiTag-card number. If you do not mention EmiTag-card number, we will rent you a card, which you can get from the info for  8 € /day. If you forget to hand in the rented EmiTag after the competition, you will be charged 100 euros.

Late registration

For Lapin Lumirastit late registration is received with 1.5-times the normal entry fee. Late entries will be accepted until Monday, 26th March 2018 at 24:00 by using Finnish Orienteering Federation IRMA service. For FC competition there is no late registration and no delayed entries are accepted.

Participation fees

The participation fee of the Finnish Championship (second competition of Lapin Lumirastit) is  31,05 euros.

In the classes H/D11 and H/D13 the fee is 15 €/day in all competitions and in other classes 25 €/day.

The entry fee must be paid by using the Finnish Orienteering Federation’s IRMA service at same time as the registration,

Route guidance

From the centre of Posio and the main road 81, Kuusamontie.

Competition center

Competition centre is in Kirintövaara,  at Wilderness Hotel Kirikeskus, address Kiririnteentie 1, 97900 Posio. There is a restaurant and a cafeteria in the competition centre, as well as toilets, showers and dressing rooms.

Parking at the parking lots of Kirikeskus and by the nearby roads. The parking fee, 5 €/day or 10 €/3 days, must be paid in cash at the info of the competition centre. These parking permits will be checked when you leave the competition centre.

Map and terrain

Ski-o map 3/2018, a printed map and the size is A4.  In the sprint the scale is 1:5000, in the long distance and in the middle distance 1:10 000 or 1:12 500.

The terrain is forest terrain of wooded hills typical of northeastern Finland. The highest height difference is about 115 m. There are lots of crosscountry skiing tracks and cottage roads in the competition area.

In all classes overall results are counted by points in all races. The winner of the class in a race scores 1000 points and all others in relation to winning time.

Sprint race on Friday :

the winner of each class is given a prize.

Middle distance on Saturday:

FC medals and commemorative prizes for top three. Plaques according to the rules of Finnish Orienteering Federation.

After the last race on Sunday:

Lapin Lumirastit prize giving by overall results.

Accommodation and dining

Posio offers many possibilities for accommodation and dining, More information on .

The competition centre at Kirintövaara has a restataurant and a cafeteria.

Possible changes and thermal boundary

Temperature limit is -20°C one hour before the first start. According to the competition jury decision, the first start can be delayed or the race cancelled. Information of the possible delay or cancellation will be found on the site .
